Diary Entry – Day 1

Yesterday I woke up thinking that it would be a beautiful day, that everything would be nice, that I would talk to my friends, but when I putted my foot in the floor, I realized that my feet wasn’t ok, I couldn’t walk at all, so I called my mom. When my mom arrived, she called the doctor, and the doctor told her that I couldn’t go to school because my foot was hurt.

Everything started the last week, when I went to the doctor, because I wasn’t feeling well when I walked, and he told me that I had a problem in my knee, and that I didn’t have to ride the vehicle, and rest any time I could.

I rested all the day whispering on what my friends had talked and joked, and that I would have to do so many homeworks. In the afternoon, my boyfriend came to visit me, with some flowers and sushi, in that time I realized how much people was interested in me, because I received many calls from my friends Cookie, Rina, Ximena and Patty. After we ate, my boyfriend helped me doing some work, because he didn’t want me to sleep too late. After doing some work, we started to play a game in facebook, that is called crazy taxi, and it’s about a taxi that has to pass some obstacles, and we were kind of fighting to see who can get more points, but he won, because I didn’t passed all the obstacles in the time needed.

After playing for a while, we started to see TV, we saw a program that he loves that is called How do they do it, and it is about different products in the world, and they explain how do they do it, it’s really interesting.

Then I continued doing home works, while he stayed playing the game on the computer, when he finished, he helped me doing a Biology homework, I wrote on the computer while he dictated everything, and when we finished, my mom called us to take dinner, so we went downstairs and ate eggs with beans, and for dessert, my mom prepared a delicious cake, we ate it, and I went upstairs while my parents and my boyfriend smoked.

At night, my dad returned from working, and we stood a while talking, and then, my dad took out his laptop, and he didn’t knew that we had wireless connection inside the house, so I helped him and we stood in the computer talking to my brother that is now living in Monterrey, Mexico.

When I finished all my home works, I stayed inside my bedroom talking by my cell phone with Katina, who told me everything that happened in the school, the problem that Cristina had and personal problems from Katina, after talking, I turned off the computer, and I watched a TV show with my sister Eugenia until she got asleep.

Before sleeping, I always talk to my boyfriend, but he called me really late, because he was looking a really nice movie, because he is in vacations, so he goes to sleep really late, we talked a little bit about a vacation that his family is planning to El Salvador in fifteen days, and he asked his parents if I could join them, and his parents told him that they would think about it, because they don’t know if there is enough rooms. After we talked, I fell asleep again thinking in the wonderful vacations I could have if I join them in their trip to El Salvador.

Biogphical Article

Many years ago, when María José Godoy was twelve years old, she decided that one day she was going to be a successful psychologist. She did not know why she was totally decided to study that, but then she realized that maybe it was because of all the problems that she saw in her family. These problems were between her sister and her parents, and also many other problems, like the economic difficulties that the family was going through. María José grew up between many problems, but even though she was going through difficult times, she knew that life is beautiful and that everything she needed to succeed was a positive attitude to continue and her knowledge and values.

The years went by and she never doubted about the idea of studying Psychology. She was so interested in the many things about it; she read many books about it, mostly about Positive Psychology. The Positive Psychology was one of her favorite themes, because it represents all the values and many other things that people need in life to be happy and succeed. She believed that she had to live every day as if it was the last one, and these helped her to continue her life between many difficult times. Her father, a great man who read a lot about Psychology too, has a great heart but, as María José says, sometimes he was depressed and bored of life. María José, with her positive attitude and also the vocation to express many feelings, helped her father with the depression, just by writing some letters to him and talking about the beautiful parts of life.

After María José graduated from High School, she did not know if she was going to be able to go to the university. She did not wanted to put her family into more economic difficulties but her father always told her that she was going to be able to go to the university she wanted. At fist, María José wanted to go to another country to study, but then the economic difficulties in her family became worse and she understood that she had to live the reality of life and study in Guatemala. After she understood that, she did not cared to study in Guatemala, she had to accept the difficulties that her father was going trough and she had to live happy with that. Her dream of going to another country was not achieved, but it did not move her from her goal to achieve, which was to become a great psychologist.

During her life, she loved to be a great listener and to give advices to her friends and family; her goal was to inspire everyone to continue with a positive way of thinking. She believes that everything in life can be done with a positive attitude and way of thinking because if things are done with negatively, things would not work. When she was younger, she said that even though happiness is a strong and difficult to describe, it can be achieved if people point of view is to achieve it. Even though she does not have a perfect life, because no body has one, she always wakes up and tries to have a great day with a positive way of thinking. She says that once she read that a perfect life does not exist, people have to have problems and have to do mistakes in life, because then those things will teach positive things for the future. She believes that life is difficult and that every step people make, is a new challenge for a great success.

After she went to Landivar University to study Educational Psychology, she specialized in special children. Since she was a senior, she wanted to study something related with special children, because she knew that Guatemala needs some clinics for therapies for those children. She always cared about these children, so after she specialized she started working in an office of three clinics, working as an educational psychologist to help special children. She worked with other three psychologists, who were her friends of high school who specialized in another thing.

Years later, working at the clinic with her other two friends, she wrote a books which is called “Education for Special Kinds”, because she believes that special children have to be educated in the same way as normal children, but in a lower path. Her book became a famous book around the world. After publishing her book, one association of the United States called her to give her a job in this association, which is specialized in special children around the world. Even though she went to work to the United States, she always keeps helping her country, by having many psychologists who help these children. Before she became a educational psychologist who gives therapy to special children, Guatemala had a poor help for special children; but now, the association of the United States and María José Godoy are the responsible for the help that special children are receiving around the world.

Modest Proposal

A Modest Proposal by Jonathan Swift is a satirical work that gives an extremely sarcastic solution to the problems that Ireland was having with poverty and overpopulation in the 1700s. He gives a series of unrealistic and simply absurd solutions to the problem that include the harsh treatment of children.

My response:

Hey dear Swift, I have just read your proposal, and I agree with you, because there are so many poor children living in all the world, every parent should be awared of how many children they can have, because there are so many people that think that having a kid is only a way of improving the economy of the family, because the kid, instead of studying, is working.

Families have big problems when the kids are too young, because they can’t work, they only represent a cost. Instead of representing a cost for the family, they should be eaten, they can be eaten in special dates, like Christmas, and you can use them like cows, that you just use them to get fat so then you can cook them and eat it.

To increase family economy, they can cook different kids, put one with vegetable, like tomato, carrots, cabbages, onions, etc. There could be another recipe with a soup, like if it was a chicken soup, and for those ones that like to eat fresh, there could be a salad, like for example a Caesar Salad, but instead of chicken, it can a kids meat.

There will be some problems to convince people about eating children, but they will recognize that is the best thing to do, because they will live their lives without babies crying, and the best of all is the delicious food they will eat day after day.

if one fails to look deeper into the subject they may fail to notice that this is indeed a satirical solution and take the opinions expressed as truthful one, thus making the impact of this essay even deeper. Swift was simply reacting to their absurdity with absurdity of his own. Also note the sarcasm swift uses in this excerpt. Most writers do use a first person speaker point of view to express their views, no matter how unrealistic they are. Swift used purpose, tone, mood, a first-person point-of-view, metaphor, and examples to reflect this revolutionary style. He is simply proposing a way to fight poverty. Some of the speakers ideas could cause the reader to become disgusted with A Modest Proposal if they werent aware that Swift was making a mockery of Irelands political system. At one point the narrator muses how England would be more than willing to eat the Irish even without such a proposal, saying, I could name a country which would be glad to eat up our whole nation without it.

Awake in an Island

Before the sun appeared in the morining, I waked up; I could not remember what happened the night before. I was exhausted and I did not knew were I was. In the morning, I waked up in the shoreline of an incredible island. Some hours later I realized that this was the perfect moment to disconver some new things in the island and also have a good time. Sometime to think and meditate about my life, which was a total mess. I also wanted to recall about the things that happened before I waked up, what happened yesterday and how do I got here.

After some hours of walking and exploring I could recall something about my friends, which was related with the reason why I was in that island. The island was incredible, the run was perfect and the waves were calm. I could relax and think about my life, which was full of problems at home. I knew that this would have positive consequences in my life. I was walking when I heard a noise, life a scream of fear, so I started running toward it, and finally I found a man. Wow! He’s my brother! I helped him with some problems t hat he was having and then we went to the beach. I asked him about the reason why we were there but he did not answered. After some minutes talking with him I fell asleep again, and when I waked up my brother was not with me. I looked for him during hours but he was not there, I thought that maybe my brother’s company was just a dream that I had.

Exploring the island I found some fresh fruit and a beautiful river of fresh water. I ate and continue my journey in the island. During my meditation I found that the day before I was with my friends in a club and I got drunk. After the party, I do not know were my friends took me and why I’m here today. I tried to go into the island to find out if it was not an island, maybe I was in a place in my country, but I could not found any clue or explanation.

Some minutes later, I heard a loud sound again, I ran over it and in that moment I found many people in one place, they were my friends, who were having a party. I felt sad because I was not invited and I also had too many questions over my head. Why they were doing the party in this island and how does they got here. In the moment that I entered to the party, my friends said “surprise!” and I did not knew why. Finally they explained me that I was in the island because they brought me and the surprise was for me.

Book Summary

A Walk to Remember, written by Nicholas Sparks is a truly wonderful love story that will touch many readers’ heart just like it did to me. After watching the film version of the book, I just had to pick up the book and I could not put it down. This book has become one of my favorite books. This romance story had really touched everyone’s heart about the true nature of love

In Beaufort, North Carolina, a joke on a student goes terribly wrong and puts the student in the hospital. Landon Carter, a popular student with no defined plans for the future, is held responsible and forced to participate in after-school community service activities as punishment, which include starring as the lead in the school play. Also participating in these activities is Jamie Sullivan, the reverend’s daughter who has great ambitions and nothing in common with Landon. When Landon decides he wants to take his activities seriously, he asks Jamie for help and begins to spend most of his time with her. But he starts to develop strong feelings for her, something he did not expect to do. The two start a relationship, much to the chagrin of Landon’s old popular friends and Jamie’s strict reverend father. But when a heart-breaking secret becomes known that puts their relationship to the test, it is then that Landon and Jamie realize the true meaning of love and fate.

Each spring in the little port town of Beaufort, North Carolina, Landon Carter remembers his senior year at Beaufort High and Jamie Sullivan, the girl who changed his life. Serious and conservative, Jamie was as far from cool as she could possibly be, and didn’t care. Landon hung with the in-crowd an aimless, moody, reckless guy who breezed through school on looks and bravado and had no plans, no future and no faith in himself. When a prank goes terribly wrong landing a kid in the hospital, Landon is assigned to tutor a young student on the weekends and participate in the Drama Club’s spring play. Clearly in over his head with both assignments, Landon is forced to ask Jamie for help. Soon, against his own expectations and the scorn of his friends, Landon finds himself falling in love with this outwardly plain girl who possesses a passion for life he never imagined possible.

When the popular, Landon Carter is forced to participate in the school drama production he falls in love with Jamie Sullivan, the daughter of the town’s minister. Jamie has a “to-do” list for her life and also a very big secret she must keep from Landon.

Love and loss throughout two very young lives. Landon Carter and Jamie Sullivan two people who find themselves unexpectedly thrown together after a practical joke between Landon and his friends which leaves a boy in hospital, as punishment Landon is forced to partake in some after school activities including the spring play. The truth of the matter is Landon can’t act, so he acquires the help of the beautiful but some what invisible Jamie you see Jamie doesn’t need to be noticed, she is quiet and keeps her self to her self most of the time, Landon and his friends always make fun of Jamie as if it is a day to day task, but one day Landon brings up the courage to ask for her help with his lines, through trials and tribulations leading up to this play Land some how falls in love with the beautiful ministers daughter abandoning his friends to be with her Landon shares a true love with the girl, but a heart breaking secret lies between the couple, they save their relationship and make all their dreams come true.

This book has taught me a lesson that with love and support you can go through anything. I will recommend that everyone should pick up this book and trust me that you won’t regret it. Now I will end this phrase “Love is like the wind. You can’t see it but you can feel it.”

My Vacation

One day during vacations I told my mother that my vacations’ trip was before the school vacations, two weeks before them. This trip was incredible; I went to Monterrey, to my brother’s university graduation. The trip started on May 25th and ended on June 1. During that week my family and I went to many interesting places that are important in Monterrey. The temperature was really high but I think that was the perfect temperature for the vacation. The first days we visited many parks and on Friday we went to the graduation, that night we were invited to the graduation party of my brother’s best friend and the next day we went to my brother’s graduation party. Both parties were incredible, I think that Mexicans are really good persons, their accent is incredible and they have their amazing way of making parties.

These vacations were focused on resting and solving many things in my life. I also wanted to spend a lot of time with my family, watch my favorite series and also talk a lot with my brother who is still in Monterrey. Days before I went to Monterrey I decided to open my facebook, because I wanted to see all the pictures of the trip that my classmates and I had to the beach, so when I went to Monterrey I liked to watch what was happening here in Guatemala, so I checked the facebook everyday, but as a result, I evered to the world of obsession with facebook.

When I was in Monterrey I met my brother’s best friends so they became my friends too, so when I came back, his best friends added me as a friend in facebook. As a result of knowing about facebook, I spended lots of time of my vacations talking to my school friends, to my brother’s friends and also to many other friends that I hadn’t talking with them in a while. So, I spended a lot of time in the computer eith talking to my friends in facebook or in the messenger talking to my brother.

As I said before, these vacations were focused on solving many things in my life. My boyfriend and I were having a lot of problems, we fought almost every day, so I think that during these vacations I had the propriate time to think and medidate about every problemand confusion in my head, to find a solution and then go back to my normal and positive life.

Another positive thing about my vacations was that the week before them, I got sick, so the last Friday of school I went to the doctor and he have me a treatment; and I think that sleeping and resting is the best medicine for the body. Everyday I had to wake up early to take the medicines but them I went back to sleep, it was incredible because when I waked up I realized that I had all day long to rest and stay in my pijamas.

In conclusion, my vacations started earlier but then I had time to talk with the people I care about, but also to think and find out what is happening in my life and what steps I have to take for a good and positive life. I think that these were the most rare in my life because I had time for everything I wanted to accomplish and also to have fun. I also think that everybody needed these vacations because as you can notice before vacations everyone started arguing because illogical things but now you can notice that the laughs and good things came back. My vacations were passive but intensive, both things at the same time, passive because I stood at home resting, but intensive because I had many confusions to solve for a better life.
