Power is something strong that can change the life of many people and the people that sounds them. Well, in my life I have seen many people who has power and what I have realize is that those people who have power use it in a negative way, fewer people use their power in a positive way. The would could be change is all the people who have power could use it in a positive way, use it to improve and change many things in the world, but they don’t do it because they do not know to manage the power they have.

Power used in a negative way doesn’t help anyone, well it olny help the person who has it because of his selfishness. I think that world has to be covered with values and people who has power and doesn’t know how to manage it, doesn’t apply the values that the world need to function. People who has power and use it in negative ways have friends but I don’t think that these friends may be true and loyal. What can you expect about the friends of someone who doesn’t know anything about life?

Life has to be managed in the best way, people change in the world and errors can be corrected. Another type of power is money, I think that now, in this moments of life and the world, money has lots of power. I know a lot of people who thinks that money makes happiness and this is because they live a material life. Life is not about material things, it is about values and thing that fulfill the heart and soul. Material things are not important as a friendship.

In my life, I have met people who has money but are unhappy. One man has lot of money, he tought that with that money he could have all that his family wanted and also he could have a happy life. His friends were also people with money, they traveled all over the world and even though he was full of material things he told my father that he was unhappy. Happiness is not about money, ok people has to have a economic status that help them to survive, but people doesn’t need lots of money to be happy.

My grandmother always says that when she was a little girl, she has 2 pairs of shoes and she has a great life. Then, she told me a story and was about her life and relationship with her father, she saw hm every saturday and sunday, because she lived at the school. Her life has little things and she says that material things are not important for life. The important things for life are all the good relationships with people you love and care about.

In my life, I know people who has power, which can be in attitude and in money, but that doesn’t make anything in life. Power can be used in good ways, but people doesn’t know how to use it in the correct way. I thank God and I’m glad to have the life I have. My family has some problems nad our economic status is not the best, but we are here living together and because of the life I have, I know to value material things but also I know that material things are not the most important things for life. Values that make me happy and make me have a good life is what is important in life.

Well, I do not have something that has caused a big consequence, something that has damaged a lot in others. In my life, as you know, in my family there has been a lot of problems and is something that hurts my parents, me and I don’t know if it hurts my sister too. Many of these problems have been the result of a fight between my parents and my sister; well, I am part of it because I am part of the family and I don’t life to hear screams of fights, these things just make me cry.

A family is a group of people that have to work together to succeed as family and I think that in a good family there has to be values, like respect, harmony, and many others. These values are not part of my family in many situation. Well, as you know, everybody has feeling and my feelings are hurt becuase of these situations that make me cry and be desperate of every problem that existes there. Now, some problems or a little fight makes me explode and react in a way that is not helthful.

My life has change, I love my family, my brother is incredible and my mother too, I fight with my father sometimes but I love him and well, about my sister, I love her because she is my sister but I don’t know, how I can have feelings for her is she has hurt me during all my lifetime. I always keep thinking that a sister has to be someone who helps me and is with me in good and bad situtation, someone who is a best friends, but I don’t see that in her, so I don’t know what a sister is.

These sounds cruel, but my heart is damaged and I am tired of every problem that happens in my house. Last weekend, I was having lunch with my family and my mother asked something to my sister and she reacted in a bad way, she started to get angry. Then, I gave an advice to my sister, because if she starts to get angry she won’t get anything and my mother and her would start fighting; well, that doesn’t lead her to anything, just to a serious problem and fight.

In the moment that I adviced her, she reacted in a worst way, she started telling me that I not her mother to advice her and many other things. In that moment I only thought that I just want to help her and be with her, so she succeeds in life; but I have seen that she doesn’t want my help, my advices, so what kind of sisters are we? I don’t know but I would expect something better than these things, I would expect a friendship but she doesn’t opens her heart and she hurts me when I try to talk her.

Hello my sweet love, how are you? Well, I just missing you here in this loneliness without you by my side. Life is different but I know that this is your challenge for life, and if you wanted to do something you had to do it, just for honor that will make you feel good. Every day I think about you and I hope that even though you are in difficult times, I know that you are doing what you wanted to do. I’m waiting for you and I’m loving you more and more every day. Thank you for the letter that you send me and I hope you can send me more. In this poem, what I can see is this poem is that he feel free even though he is a prison. He says that no one know how to enojoy the liberty that the world give us. He is telling us that even though he is in prision he knows how to enjoy that libery and he also tell us that love has to be free and his soul is freee and he is expecting that the world can enojoy that libery that we have but we doesn’t know that, so we doesn’t enjoy it as it has to be. Life is beatiful even though we are in a place we don’t like.

Life changes every day and we have to take the positive things of every that, those things that make a beautiful and free world. Those changes doesn’t have to affect in our life, the negative things have to go into the trash can and we have to feel happy and free in life because even though this would be our last day, we have to see the world with a positive look and feel the freedom of our life.

In my life, if I have some goals or dreams I know that I have to do the best and always try to get them, I’m free in this world and my life is something beautiful that I have to enojy it. The world has obstacles but I know that I don’t have to stop my ways to get those goals and dreams because of that obstacles. Obstacles are just a challenge for life, but even though the things doesn’t get as I want, I know that I have to keep fighting to get the things that I want for my life and future.

Life is not a prision, that is what Richard Lovelace is telling us in his poem, we doesn’t know if Althea is someone that existed in his time, but I know that Althea was the representation of freedom for his love, soul and life. Love has to be something beautiful that make us feel special and in a positive way. The lover of everybody has to be someone who helps that person to succeed in life, and both grow and mature together. Love is something that has to make us feel free and special.

Clearly, this poem is beautiful, of course it is not only applied for people who are in prison, this prison that he is taking about can be anything in the world, can be a relationship, a job or something else that doesn’t permit us to feel the happiness of life and the freedom that the world give us. When a person doesn’t feel comforable in something, he or she has to break that situation and start fighting for freedom and happiness, this is the reality of the world and we have to see it forever.

On My First Son

 What do you think of this resolution? What effect could it have on him?

In this poem I can see that he is so sad, he will never love someone else as he loved his son. His son was his favorite person in the whole world, he was his right hand boy and in this poem he explains that his life would never be the same because his son died. This poem makes me think that he is so sad that he would never live his life as he did with his son by his side. He was proud of his son and loved him with all his heart and that is over, so everything would be dark and sad for the rest of his life.

Well, this poem also make me think that the love that a father has with his son in the most amazing love that can exist in the whole world. He is kind of obsessed with his son; well, he is exaggerating in his poem because of his depression, maybe he wrote it in the moment of his lose and in that moment he could believe that his son was dead. Clearly, his life would change but everything could get positive if he takes a good attitude over this, he could think that his son is in a better place.

Clearly, I can see that Ben Jonson is sad and angry. He is mad with death and with life because his son, well his favorite son died. He really knows that his son went to a better place and has a better life but he also knows that he is here, sad and with a lot of depression. He show us that we have to take advantage of every relationship that we have, we have to love with all of our hearts to the people we love. Life is just something that God give us for a moment and he can take it in any moment.

What I can think about this poem is that he is expressing about love like the heart’s thirst because he says that love has to be there and has to be consistent to fulfill the heart. So he asks her to fill his heart with her love so he won’t be thirsty of love. At this moment, when he wrote the poem he acts in a way that he feels thirsty, but he doesn’t want to look for another way to full it.

Well, I do not agree with him because I think that love is something beautiful and special. Love is everyday’s sunshine that moves everybody’s heart. Love is not only between a man and a woman, it is also between a mother and her daughte, between friends or many other relationships. Love is something that is formed on the basis of values and communication. Love is the energy of everybody’s heart and soul that can last forever.

In conclusion, I think that love is a plant that has to be cultivated and you have to take care of it. Love will help you and make you feel in the right way if you take care of it as it has to be. I think that love is not the heart’s thirst; love is the hearts energy to be happy and to feel the company and appreciation that everybody needs. Sincerely, love is what makes my life complete, because first I love myself and then I can give love and also receive love; love in a relationship has to be somthing of two ways.

Yes, this ideas are really surprising because he seems to be afraid of death so he is challenging it, so he would not show it; but I think that sunner or latter he was going to die, he tries to avoid the universal truth of life.

2. According to the poem, why shouldn’t Death be proud? Whom must Death serve as a slave?

Well, I think that death is the slave of our lifes, that is what he is trying to tell us in this poem. Death should be proud because many people die because of sickness, because they don’t want to die but death get them; and also, that many people search for death.

3. Explain how rest and sleep are the “picture” of Death.

When someone dies it seems like he or she is sleeping or resting, and also in death and sleeping you are inconscious of the world.

4. How does the sonnet resolve its paradoxes, or seeming contradictions: that those who die do not die and that Death itself will die?

When death gets people it dies by itself and people who die don’t dies because they go to Heaven. He seems to be a religious person because he believes in afterlife.

As I said before, he is kind of challenging death and maybe he wants to know about death so he creates something like a test for death. I think that he revealed his attitude just by saying that in one moment death will die and people will not.

I think that maybe he had to take advantage of life instead of beeing on  a challenge with death because everybody knows that death is after all the humanity but that isn’t relevant in everybody’s life, and even though somebody dies he or she will go to an afterlife and death will disappear.

7. John Gunter uses this poem’s opening words as the title of a book he wrote about the death of his teenage son. What attitude toward this personal tragedy does the father’s choice of title suggest?

Maybe he uses Gunter’s poem as an example about death and everybody’s beliefs. I think that Gunter was angry with death because it took his son, but Donne’s poem is just challenge that doesn’t lead us to a good conclusion.

In life, happy moments can be every moment in which we act and think with a positive mind; well, there are some moments that even though we react in a positive way that does not means that this moments will be the happiest moment in our lives. We always look for happiness and that means that we always try to react in a good way for every situation that is part of our interests. In my life I can tell you that sometimes when a situation is not part of our interests we react in a negative way, but sometimes our perspective changes and that moment becomes one of the happiest moments in our life. My perspective of life is to look for happiness in every situation, or maybe just look for the positive side of every situation. Sometimes when I have the perspective about something I’m going to do or somewhere I will go, this perspective maybe was really positive and I expect to have a happy time and in one moment this perspective can change, so I get sad or angry. Every time I know I will be going to a place that I like or I will be in a situation that seems to be really cool, I try to stop my day dreams because I like that moments in life surprise me with what will happen.

Happiness can be described in many ways; well I can be happy with different things and moments in my life. Many years ago, I told my mother that my heart, which is related with happiness, is divided in 4 parts, the first one is about myself, about my own satisfaction and that includes academic things and my self-esteem and everything that is related with me and my own things. The second part of my heart is my family, which includes everything that happens in my family, if my family is passing though problems, well the second part of my heart is not in the right way. The third part of my heart is about the person I love, well right now I have my boyfriend, so suppose that we are fighting the third part of my heart would be in the right way. The fourth part of my heart includes my friends, how our relationships are and how I feel with them; it also includes my classmates, well, they take an important part of my life because they are with me most of the time during the day.  My heart is divided in these four parts but even though I organize them in a list from one to four that does not mean that are organize because of my priorities in life. Sometimes the four parts are ok, and that produces happiness; sometimes I feel really happy because the four parts of my heart are working in the right way and I happy with myself, with  my family, with my friends and with my boyfriend.

Life changes, sometimes is really difficult to find happiness but is essential that I have to have a positive mind over all the moments I pass through. After I all have explain you about happiness in my heart, I can tell you that the happiest moments in my life are the ones that I spend with my friends, family and with my boyfriend, those moments in which I laugh with them, I talk with them and anything negative happens. I can remember the last time that I went to the beach with my friends, it was an amazing weekend and I think that the place is not relevant for happiness, feelings and the companions are the important facts for a happy moment. I can tell you that taking about places is obviously that going on a trip to Miami or something like that, I will have happy moments; but thinking on this I go back to the things I already said, if I go in a trip with people I love I will have a great time but if I go with people I don’t like is most likely that the trip will be boring or something like that. I love to go to trips with my family, our last trip was to IRTRA, and we went because of my father’s birthday; it was an amazing trip and I can tell you that we had a great time. Another example I can tell you is that if I go to Antigua Guatemala alone I know that it will be kind of boring, but the last time, I went with my boyfriend and his family and it was different but great; one day my parents went there to spend the day with us and it was incredible. I hope to have a happy life because is really important to know that life is a gift that God gave us and we have to take advantage of it in the right way.

Another thing that makes me happy is when I went to help people, like the time I went to Anini with the school and another time with my friends. Is incredible to see how you can help people just by spending the day with them. I don’t know why, but I think I have a gift from God; I like to be with people who are special, like the ones who have Down syndrome; in conclusion I like to help them and spend time with them just to make them happy. My dream for my life is to study psychology and specialize on special persons, because I think I have to take advantage of the gift that God gave me, so I can help people in the world.

Well I think it is kind of offensive, I think he tells a lot of things that are not true about women. I think that maybe he had an experience that taught him this. I think that he generalized about women and that is not fair. The world is full of different types of people; there are good men as well as women, but also you can find not good men and also women. Everybody is different, no one is perfect and the world has different things that expect us for life, good and bad situations that will teach us for the rest of our lives.

The poem talks about the difficulties to find a woman that is both single and virginal. Maybe it was written because a bad experience he had in his love life.

In the second stanza, what does the speaker say his listener will discover about a woman both true and fair?

Maybe he is talking about that women are not perfect, that the woman who is true and fair does not exists. I think that is not true, well, maybe in the world is difficult to find a woman who is true and fair but is possible to find, as well as men. I know that there are not perfect persons, so no one will find the perfect match for them, but they can find what completes their heart and makes he or she feel good and comfortable.

What hyperboles do you see in love songs, whether modern of from other times? How do the sentiments in Donne’s song compare with those in love songs?

Something like “you are my world” or “you’re my everything”. I think that modern hyperboles are not much compared to hyperboles from the past. The only thing that compares the sentiments that Donne express in his song with the modern love songs is that both talk about the differences that men and women can find and don’t understand about each other.

Today in the world everything has changed, people act in an independent way in relation with the past; well, now women see a perspective for their life and future in a professional and successful way. Women are interested in marriage but it is not a principal priority as in the past, because the world is different; women do not want to be dependent persons from a man, their husband, so they study and take all the advantages that they have to succeed. This is an effect that describes why love has changed, as well as love songs.

 Love, in the past was something secondary in a marriage; well, it was important but the status that people had in the societies was more important, so women had to marry someone that was known by society and sometimes someone who had money, because as I said women were dependant of their husband. I can tell you a story; well, my grandmother, when she was young she met a guy, my grandfather, and after a while they fell in love. My grandfather was a person that was part of a good family and had his money, so he married my grandmother. When my grandmother got married she had studied high school, she does not had a professional carrier. She was happy with him, they had children, my father, my uncle and my aunt, but in their marriage he was the one who set up the rules and everything. My grandfather’s mother was an independent woman who knew how to drive and everything, after all, she had a crazy life and my grandfather was damaged because of the things that his mother made and the crazy situation that he live while he was with his mother. Going back to my grandparents’ married life, as a result of the life that my grandfather had he does not permitted that my grandmother learned how to drive. She was a total dependent mother; because she needed that my grandfather took her from place to place. This is an example of the dependency that women in the past had over their husband, so that’s the reason why love was kind of an obsession.

What I can conclude about this story that I have told you is that in today’s life does not exists this kind of stories; well, women have fight for our rights in our society and now we form an important role in this society. As I said before, now women are independent and look for their professional and successful life. Today, as a difference from the past, love is based on a companion for the rest of the life.

Love is something passionate, beautiful but at the same time it is not an obsession. After all I have said about love and the difference between the life that people had in the past and the life that we have now; I can say that love songs have changed. I can tell you that love song from the past were more passionate and the feelings were represented by more romantic word, life the song that Frank Sinatra wrote, than song from today have. Another song from the past that is completely passionate is LOVE, which is a song that states a phrase with the L, then with the O, then with the V, and finally another one with the E. What I can say is that love from the past was maybe that kind of love that was not permitted by parents, society or whatever, and that was the theme of many love songs.

Sometimes, the theme of love songs is like he has lost her or she has lost him, life the song of “So sick of love songs” by Neyo; these songs are part of the life because in every relationship there are fights and in the sadness after the fight. In today’s life, fewer songs say that he or she can’t live without each other than in the past times. This has changed because the independency that people have now. I think that the themes of many song is about love but it maybe tells a romantic story, as many songs written by Ricardo Arjona, or tells how much the singer loves another person, like “Love Song” written by Sara Bareilles. As a conclusion, love has changed, now is a sweet companion, is important that lovers grow in their relationship, even though they have some fights, so many other love songs tell something learned about love like some song written by Colbie Caillat or Jordin Sparks. Love songs are in a better mood now, people can live without their lover but the thing is that they don’t want to, but song of today does not say that they can’t live without his or her lover, because it is a possession and that is neither right nor true. Love has changed, it is passionate, beautiful and people have a better perspective about it than in the past.
